Mississippi Divorce Reform
Leaving a Marriage Shouldn’t Require Your Spouse’s Permission
Finding the courage to leave my abusive marriage was only the beginning. Getting legally free meant proving in court that I had grounds for a divorce.
I’m asking Mississippi lawmakers to allow one person to end a marriage on the ground of irreconcilable differences, even when their spouse refuses to agree. Courts would still decide disputes over custody, support, and property. But the ability to leave the marriage should not be something one spouse can withhold.
Help me change the law for the people who are still trying to get out.
Help Change the Law
I want to turn this public conversation into legislative action, and I’m looking for people who can help make that happen.
If you’re a lawmaker, attorney, advocate, or part of an organization working on domestic violence or family law, I’d love to hear from you. Whether you can help draft legislation, connect us with decision-makers, organize support, or bring this issue to a wider audience, please reach out.
Tell me who you are and how you’d like to contribute. Together, we can work toward a Mississippi where leaving a marriage doesn’t require the other person’s permission.
